Have a Smoke

So I figured out just now why everyone in the art school at my University chain-smokes. There are actually two reasons. The first is that just about every tool that we use generates a huge amount of dust. I finished a 15×20″ project in soft pastel tonight and I’ll be sneezing rainbows for a week. With all that crap in our lungs, might as well enjoy the lung cancer. Probably more importantly, weeks 8, 9 and 10 of the quarter are insane. Navy SEALS “Hell Week” stressful. I have 6 projects, a photo shoot, two sets to print in the darkroom and two papers due next week. I have to eat Stouffer’s garbage because I have no time cook and have averaged three hours of sleep for the past couple weeks. I don’t know how I’m getting to the city to shoot this weekend or where the time is going to come from to sit and make perspective drawings.  If one more engineer chides me for not doing any real work or not knowing what it’s like to be overworked, well, I just can’t be held responsible for what I might do to him.
